IS IT TRUE THAT PROPHET MUHAMMAD [SALLALLAAHU 'ALAIHI WA SALLAM] KNEW WHEN THE HOUR WILL OCCUR EXACTLY, ON WHICH YEAR, BUT THAT HE DID NOT REVEALED IT JUST TO LET IT REMAIN AS A SURPRISE?

IS IT TRUE THAT PROPHET MUHAMMAD [SALLALLAAHU 'ALAIHI WA SALLAM] KNEW WHEN THE HOUR WILL OCCUR EXACTLY, ON WHICH YEAR, BUT THAT HE DID NOT REVEALED IT JUST TO LET IT REMAIN AS A SURPRISE?

All praise be to Allaah

This is the claim of the extreme Bareilwiyah and indeed I have seen this in a book dedicated to Qiyaamah, by a Bareilwy Maulana. However this is false. Allaah alone knows when will the Hour occur.

When Jibreel [as] came in the form of a Bedouin and asked the Prophet [sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam] about Islaam, then Eemaan, and then Ihsaan, the Prophet [sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam] answered him. But when Jibreel [as] asked about the Hour, the Prophet [sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam] said:

"The one who is questioned does not have more knowledge about it than the questioner."

Also, Allaah said:

"They ask you about the Hour: 'When will be its appointed time?' Say:'The knowledge thereof is with my Lord [alone]. None can reveal its time but He. Heavy is its burden through the heavens and the earth. It shall not come upon you except all of a sudden.' They ask you as if you have a good knowledge of it. Say:'The knowledge thereof is with Allaah [Alone] but most of mankind know not."' [Qur'aan 7:187]
